Express Entry pool dips 186 profiles between Aug 16–30

Express Entry pool snapshot (Aug 30, 2026): small net change masks large shifts across CRS bands

The Express Entry pool barely changed between Aug 16 and Aug 30, 2026 — a net decline of just 186 profiles — but that overall stability conceals significant movement inside score bands. Over the two weeks, IRCC issued 6,442 invitations to apply (including a focused 5,000‑invitation French‑language round), the number of top‑scoring profiles (CRS 501–1,200) rose from 19,096 to 20,101, and the 351–400 band fell by nearly 1,800 profiles. These shifts affect relative positions and probable cutoffs for different draw types.

Detailed snapshot: who was in the pool on Aug 30
IRCC’s Aug 30, 2026 snapshot reports 226,673 Express Entry profiles. Key changes since Aug 16:

– Total pool: 226,673 (down 186 from 226,859).
– 501–600: 19,542 on Aug 30 vs 18,657 on Aug 16 (+885).
– 601–1,200: 559 on Aug 30 vs 439 on Aug 16 (+120).
– 351–400: 46,824 on Aug 30 vs 48,600 on Aug 16 (−1,776).
– 0–300 and 301–350: small increases (+26 and +226 respectively).

The snapshot also shows percentile ranges for each band (the share of candidates with CRS at or below each band’s upper limit). For example, the 501–600 band covers roughly the 91.13%–99.75% percentiles and represents 8.62% of the pool; 601–1,200 accounts for about 0.25%.

Why the pool barely changed overall but shifted internally
Two main forces produced the small net change but noticeable internal reshuffle:

1) Large invitation rounds removed many candidates in targeted score ranges. Between Aug 16 and Aug 30, IRCC held three draws totalling 6,442 ITAs:
– Aug 17: PNP — 442 ITAs, lowest CRS 760.
– Aug 18: CEC — 1,000 ITAs, lowest CRS 523.
– Aug 19: French‑language category — 5,000 ITAs, lowest CRS 382.

The large French‑language draw (cutoff 382) pulled many candidates from the 351–400 and 301–350 bands.

2) Movement toward higher scores within the pool. While many mid‑range candidates left after receiving ITAs, the count of high‑scoring profiles increased (501–600 and 601–1,200), lifting the pool’s upper tail even as the middle thinned.

How recent draws affect cutoffs and competitiveness
Different draw types behave differently:

– Category‑based draws (French‑language, occupation, province/sector categories) can have much lower cutoffs and invite many mid‑range candidates (the Aug 19 French‑language draw cut off at 382).
– Program‑specific draws (CEC, PNP) typically cut at higher CRS scores. For example, the Aug 18 CEC draw cut off at 523 and the Aug 17 PNP draw at 760. This year, healthcare and social services category draws have cutoffs around 467–475, while CEC draws have ranged from about 507–523.

What the Aug 30 snapshot does not include
The Aug 30 pool snapshot does not reflect two draws held immediately afterward:

– Aug 31: PNP — 562 ITAs, lowest CRS 697.
– Sept 1: CEC — 2,000 ITAs, lowest CRS 521.

Those two draws issued 2,562 ITAs. Including all draws through Sept 1, IRCC has issued 117,427 ITAs in 2026 to date, with 43.6% going to Canadian Experience Class candidates. Because the Aug 30 snapshot excludes the Aug 31 and Sept 1 removals, the live pool after Sept 1 will have fewer profiles in some bands than the snapshot shows.

Who is most affected
– Mid‑range candidates (CRS 351–400 and 301–350): Category draws can quickly clear many peers from these bands, improving percentile position but not guaranteeing future ITAs unless you meet category criteria.
– High‑score candidates (CRS 501+): The rise in 501–600 and 601–1,200 profiles increases competition at the top; program draws that target higher scores will remain selective.
– Candidates eligible for category or PNP rounds: These draws provide pathways for applicants below typical CEC cutoffs.

Practical takeaways
– Check your percentile, not only your CRS. Uneven pool shifts can change your relative standing even if your score is unchanged.
– Watch draw types and cutoffs. If your CRS is below recent CEC cutoffs (507–523), consider whether you qualify for category rounds or provincial pathways.
– Be ready for the 60‑day deadline after an ITA. Have language results, ECA (if needed), work references, and police checks ready.
– Expect processing time differences: Express Entry applications have historically finalized in about six months; base PNP applications have generally taken about 12–20 months.

Key numbers and dates to remember
– Pool (Aug 30): 226,673 profiles (net −186 since Aug 16).
– Notable band moves: 351–400 −1,776; 501–600 +885; 601–1,200 +120.
– Draws Aug 16–30: Aug 17 PNP 442 ITAs (lowest CRS 760); Aug 18 CEC 1,000 ITAs (523); Aug 19 French‑language 5,000 ITAs (382). Total: 6,442 ITAs.
– Draws after Aug 30 (not in snapshot): Aug 31 PNP 562 ITAs (697); Sept 1 CEC 2,000 ITAs (521). Post‑snapshot total: 2,562 ITAs.
– 2026 to date: 117,427 ITAs issued; 43.6% to CEC candidates.
– ITA deadline: 60 days to submit a complete PR application.

Keep tracking both pool snapshots and live draw results to understand how quickly peers in your band are leaving the pool and which draw types might target you.
