Northwest Territories PNP 2026: NTNP Gains 103 Additional Nomination Spaces — What Job-Seekers and Employers Should Do Now
The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) has been allocated 103 extra nomination spaces for 2026, raising its annual total from 197 to 300. That restores the territory’s allocation to the 300 level it reached at the end of 2025. The increase means more invitations will be available through NTNP streams, especially the Employer-Driven Stream, and the territory will hold an extra Expression of Interest (EOI) draw on August 26, 2026. Employers who want their job-offer holders considered in that draw must submit the employer application by August 24, 2026.
Key facts
– GNWT announced the allocation change on August 7 on the NTNP news page.
– NTNP’s 2026 allocation is now 300 nominations (previously 197; +103).
– An additional Employer-Driven Stream EOI draw will take place on August 26, 2026. Employer submissions for that draw are due August 24, 2026.
– NTNP will run four draws in 2026 total. Two have already taken place (March 25 and June 25); the final scheduled draw is September 25, 2026 (considering profiles submitted by September 22).
– Francophone and Business streams continue to operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
What the March and June draws showed
– March 25 — 65 invitations issued
– NWT Express Entry: 32; Skilled Workers: 20; Entry Level/Semi-Skilled: 13
– Yellowknife: 37; Outside Yellowknife: 28
– Score range: 417–597
– June 25 — 79 invitations issued
– NWT Express Entry: 40; Skilled Workers: 20; Entry Level/Semi-Skilled: 19
– Yellowknife: 52; Outside Yellowknife: 27
– Score range: 336–590
In both draws, the NWT Express Entry pathway received the largest share of invitations.
How the Employer-Driven EOI system works
– Candidates submit an EOI profile and receive a score. NTNP periodically invites the highest-ranking profiles and asks the employer to submit a full nomination application.
– Scoring categories (maximum points):
– Skills and experience — up to 375 points (age, education, language, work experience)
– Ties to the NWT — up to 340 points (current employment, trades-related offers, prior work in territory)
– Ability to establish in the NWT — up to 130 points (family ties, previous post-secondary study in the territory)
– EOI profiles are valid for 12 months. Candidates are notified before expiry and may submit a new profile.
– Employers must register in the NTNP portal, create an account for the candidate, and use their login while the candidate completes and submits the EOI.
Practical impact
– More nominations in 2026 should increase chances for qualified candidates compared with the lower allocation.
– The August 26 draw is an immediate opportunity; employers must meet the August 24 employer submission deadline.
– Because draws invite top-ranking profiles, candidates should strengthen factors that raise their score: language test results, education credentials, relevant work experience, and ties to the NWT.
– Employers should be ready to register in the portal and to act quickly if invited.
– Score cutoffs vary by draw, so competitive profiles help.
Actions candidates and employers should prioritize now
– Employers: submit the required employer application by August 24, 2026, if you want your candidate considered for the August 26 draw.
– Candidates: submit or update your EOI well before draw deadlines; EOIs remain valid for 12 months.
– Note the draw dates: additional draw August 26 (employer deadline August 24) and final scheduled draw September 25 (considers profiles submitted by September 22). Past draws were March 25 and June 25.
– Prepare supporting documents: language test results, credential assessments, proof of NWT employment or study, and evidence of family ties where applicable.
– Attend the GNWT Zoom information sessions:
